After months of planning, a $5,000 gift from St. Augustine Historic Inns (SAHI) and support from other local organizations, the first class of the Fresh Starts in Culinary Arts program is underway. This four-week program is designed to provide residents of the St. Francis House with relevant training and certifications that will make them immediately employable in the third fastest growing occupation in Florida – foodservice occupations. Enrolled students will train in St. Francis House’s kitchen, through a mix of hands-on and classroom instruction, provided by First Coast Technical College Chef Instructor Phil Brown, who said: "This is a motivated, dedicated group of students and I know they will set the bar high for future Fresh Starts classes." SAHI's donation came from proceeds of its 2012 Bed & Breakfast Holiday Tour.
